Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Findings of Uterine Cervical Carcinoid Tumor


Abstract
A case of uterine cervical carcinoid tumor arising from 49 year old female was demonstrated by ultrastructural and immunohistochemical studies.
Light microscopic pictures of the cervical carcinoid tumor show monotonous and ir.termedlate size of nuclei.
Argyrophilic granules by modified Grimelius stain and anti-neuron specific enolase, antichromogranin and anti ACTH antibody were demonstrated in the cytplasm. Ultras:ructural studies show prominent and numerous membrane bounded neurosecretory granules, Golgi complex and poorly developed intercellular junctional comples.
The patient was performed radical hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy ad received third course chemortherapy and third times of radiotherapy, but eighteen months after diagnosis she developed pleural effusion, left cervical lymph node and right renal metastasis.
The patient was died 20 months after diagnosis.
